What happens during your assessment
Your appointment begins with a short conversation about your hearing history, lifestyle, and any specific concerns. There are no right or wrong answers this helps us tailor the test to what matters to you.
We then carry out pure-tone audiometry, which measures your hearing sensitivity at frequencies from 250 Hz to 8,000 Hz. This is conducted in a sound-treated booth using calibrated headphones. We also perform speech audiometry to assess how well you understand spoken words a critical measure that a pure-tone test alone cannot capture.
Tympanometry is included to assess the health of your middle ear and eardrum function. Results are explained in plain language, with a printed audiogram you can take home.
Who should have a hearing test?
You do not need a referral from your GP to book a hearing test with us. We recommend an assessment for anyone who has noticed changes in their hearing, has difficulty following conversations especially in noisy environments experiences tinnitus or ringing in the ears, or has not had their hearing checked in the past two years.
Early identification of hearing loss makes a significant difference to long-term outcomes. The sooner a change is identified, the more options are available and the less adaptation the brain needs to do.

Common questions
Does a hearing test hurt?
Not at all. The test is entirely non-invasive you listen to tones through headphones and press a button when you hear them. Tympanometry involves a small probe tip in the ear canal with a gentle puff of air, which is comfortable for most people.
How long does the appointment take?
A full diagnostic hearing assessment typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. This includes the case history, the tests, and a thorough explanation of your results.
What if my hearing test shows a loss?
We will walk you through your results in detail and explain your options — whether that is monitoring, hearing aids, referral to a specialist, or another pathway. There is no obligation and no pressure to proceed with anything on the day.
